In May, the South-Central Monarch Symposium was held at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. UT Austin alumna and former First Lady Laura Bush was the keynote speaker. Texan By Nature, an organization founded by Bush, is helping to develop a collaborative conservation framework for creating sustainable habitats for the monarch butterfly in Texas. The symposium brought together scientists, experts and leaders from many prominent organizations to share best practices for helping the disappearing monarchs.
